LEGOLAND Malaysia: A World of Adventure and Imagination for All Ages
Calling all LEGO enthusiasts and adventure-seekers! LEGOLAND Malaysia is a magical wonderland that promises a whirlwind of excitement, creativity, and family fun. After Singapore and before the gorgeous Melaka we went to Legoland Malaysia. It is a pretty easy process crossing the border from Singapore to LEGOLAND Malaysia. The most common and convenient way to make this border crossing is by road. We used a transport company (Nusa Transport) who were used to doing this crossing to make it easier, and we didn’t have to get out of the car like you have to if you are on a bus! It cost us $160 +$10 for the baby car seat (AUD). We knew it was going to be a long morning in the car due to the border transfer so we were up early and got picked up at 7:30am. It took barely any time to get to the border but then took AGES to get through into Malaysia. I suggest getting there super early so that you get through the long line quicker. I would have hated to have been there in peak time! Bring snacks and Ipads for the car ride.
Apart from the wait, the entire process was smooth and hassle-free, using another company allowed us to focus solely on the excitement that awaited us at the magical LEGO wonderland. The border crossing added an extra dimension of anticipation to our journey, the kids really enjoyed this part as it was different and they usually cross borders via airports. You can cross the border in a bus, with with kids I think I would pay the money 100% of the time to do it by ourselves!

What is Legoland?
Located in Johor Bahru, Malaysia, this theme park is a dream come true for kids and adults alike. From thrilling rides and interactive attractions to captivating LEGO displays, LEGOLAND Malaysia is a place where imaginations run wild and cherished memories are born. The kids say that this was their highlight of their trip. It wont be yours as an adult I can almost guarantee you. It was definitely fun, but the kids ADORED it and will remember this forever. Definitely add it to your list of to – dos in Malaysia with kids.
Our first thoughts
Coming from Singapore, we were shocked by the look of Legoland, we were unaware of the impact of the weather on buildings in Malaysia and so it didn’t quite look as spick and span as say Disneyland does. Nevertheless the kids didn’t care and the inside was amazing. The outside looks great but it does look run down simply due to the hard weather.
When we got there they stored our luggage and we bought our tickets inside. If you go on a Tuesday or Wednesday make sure you have looked up what is open, as on these days only either the theme park or the water park is open, so you are at the mercy of that. We knew in advance but we had timed our holiday stays based on other things such as the market on Jonker Walk in Melaka, so we just went with the flow and did Theme park on the first day and water park on the second day. It wasn’t 10am yet so the kids sat in reception where massive castles stood with thousands of pieces of Lego. It is seriously Lego heaven. There are so many 2×4 pieces of lego and the kids had almost as much fun in reception playing with this as they did in the theme park! Be prepared to see everything made out of lego. It was astounding!

Thrill Rides for the Brave:
Get ready to scream with delight as you dive into the world of exhilarating rides at LEGOLAND Malaysia. The Dragon Coaster takes you on a speedy adventure through the enchanting LEGO Kingdom. The kids absolutely loved this and both the 9 and 11yr old did this multiple times! The LEGO Technic Twister with virtual reality headsets will have your heart pounding with its wild spins and turns. Brace yourselves for an adventure-packed day filled with laughter and excitement.
But it is HOT. Bring some fans – I saw people with the personal neck fans here but I couldn’t find anywhere to buy actually these there. We took a few different ones and I’ll put them all below (some include affiliate links, no cost to you). We couldn’t find neck fans until Melaka, if I did my time again I would buy before leaving Australia.
- We got an 10000mAh Battery Operated Fan. You plug it in to a normal USB C charger to charge it up and this one lasted all day. The kids carried it around with them and it was absolutely necessity to bring everywhere. You can also wrap it around a pram to help put some airflow on bubba! We forgot to bring this on the river cruise – ok we didn’t forget, I wanted to bring it and Hubby said ‘It’s too big lets just take the little one’. MASSIVE MISTAKE! Bring this one everywhere. The cruise was too hot without it.
- We also got a 4000mAh Battery Fan too. This was the same concept and was smaller than the other one. Being smaller was good, but it also didn’t last quite as long. the kids liked this one and the 360 degree rotation was used heaps.
- We saw heaps of people with neck fans so after looking around we purchased some neck fans in Melaka itself, and while they were great and only 30RM, they only lasted an hour or so, and it was dependent on which brand you got how long they lasted so it was a bit frustrating. When we go to Japan next year I am going to get something like this instead – a 4000mAh personal neck fan. It’s the same as what we got in Melaka but this one looks far more reliable with over 37,000 ratings to a 4.3 average. So I would go prepared with one of these each for the entire family if you can manage it! They’re nice and light and provide some airflow. We wore them everywhere particularly in Melaka and KL.
I would also suggest going to the cafe at the start of the park for lunch, it is thoroughly air conditioned unlike the one at the very back of the park where you sit outside. I sat here with the 2 yr old for an hour or so while the kids did more dragon coastering!
Build, Create, and Play:
At LEGOLAND Malaysia, creativity knows no bounds. Head to the Build & Test Zone, where little architects can construct their LEGO masterpieces and put them to the test on various ramps and tracks. In the Imagination Zone, join in interactive workshops and unleash your creativity through building challenges and design competitions. Watch as your little ones’ imaginations soar, and be prepared to be amazed by their ingenuity. We did this lots in the water park but not in the Theme Park. I’m not sure if it was because it was hot but they always seem to be full so we didn’t experience this part in the Theme Park!
Miniland: A World in LEGO Miniature:
Prepare to be awe-struck as you step into Miniland, a captivating display of famous landmarks from around the world, all meticulously recreated using LEGO bricks. From the Petronas Twin Towers to the Taj Mahal, the attention to detail in these miniature masterpieces is nothing short of astounding. Take a leisurely stroll through this miniature world and marvel at the craftsmanship that brings these iconic structures to life.
LEGO Ninjago World:
Enter the legendary world of Ninjago and join the ninja warriors on a mission to defeat evil forces. The LEGO Ninjago Ride combines cutting-edge technology with interactive fun, allowing you to test your ninja skills and battle enemies in a 4D virtual world. This is great with big and little kids. Our 2 year old liked it right up until the end where he got a little sick of it. Get ready to unleash your inner ninja and embark on a heroic adventure.
LEGO City:
In LEGO City, kids get to experience the thrill of being grown-ups as they role-play various professions. From being a firefighter to piloting a plane, little ones can immerse themselves in these interactive experiences and gain a deeper understanding of the world around them. Go right as you walk in to find all the fun stuff for the little kids, go left for all the bigger kid thrill stuff!
Water Fun at LEGOLAND Water Park:
Beat the heat and head to the adjacent LEGOLAND Water Park for a splashing good time. We went here on our second day. With a variety of water slides, wave pools, and lazy rivers, the water park offers refreshing fun for the whole family. Don’t forget to explore the Build-A-Raft River, where you can construct your LEGO raft and set sail on an exciting aquatic adventure. Our 2 year old spent nearly the entire day building rafts. We took it in terms going on all the rides and looking after him!
A tip on the green circular tube for 4 or so people – do this first. You need to wait a really long time later in the day, and we were there on an off peak day! So do that loads to start with. It was really the only one that had a big line when we went.
Staying at the Hotel
Do I recommend staying at the Legoland Hotel with kids? ABSOLUTELY.
It was the most amazing experience. From reception, to the hallways, to the lego figures made out of little lego everywhere, to the themed bedrooms, and the ‘break the code’ game in the room. It was a phenomenal experience and one I would do again. The breakfast was yum – just make sure you don’t forget to go out in the little room near the window – thats where all the good stuff is! The roti canai was fantastic.
Tips for LEGOLAND with kids
If you need to stock up on food from home head to BIG – the Independent supermarket just across the car park. It is full of food from home whereever home is. So stock up on all your international goodies to get your kids through your holiday! We bought shapes, red frogs, all all sorts of bribery for our trip. Plus it’s quite fun walking through!
If you go through BIG to the mall there is a little shop you can get a sim card. They were super welcoming there, so if you are planning on travelling further through Malaysia its an awesome place to get a sim card.
NOTE: there is no wifi in Legoland!!!! Unlike alot of places especially if you are coming from Singapore just know you are not going to have wifi. So head to the mall and get a sim.
Also I had to wait in line on the second day for our waterpark tickets, then realised I could but them online and skip the queue. I have NO IDEA why everyone else wasn’t doing that too! So buy online and head in and skip the queue at the theme park entrance.
